Alcohol by volume: 57,1 %
Cask: Ex Sherry quarter casks
No 16: Smögen ”100 proof”, alluding to the old Sikes system of measuring alcoholic strength and thus 57,1 % abv. This is the first recurring batched bottling of Smögen, one that will be repeated about half a dozen times, as long as there are sufficient numbers of ex Sherry quarter casks available. Fully matured in said type of casks, the 100 proof is at 6 yo a slightly older presentation of the previous Sherry Quarters bottling and is very clearly marked by the Sherry casks, with nutty and fruity notes in abundance, complementing the peated malty core character. First released in the summer of 2020, the batches are typically at least 2000 bottles in volume.
Alcohol by volume: 58,5 %
Cask: Two ex Pedro Ximenez hogshead
No 17: Smögen ”Twin PX hogsheads”, a 6 yo bottling at 58,5 % abv exclusively for the German market, this is exactly what the name implies – two ex Pedro Ximenez hogshead casks vatted together. Malty to the core, the peaty notes are still there, but are subdued by the luscious raisiny sweetness and nutty notes from the casks. Released with 852 bottles in the summer of 2021.
Alcohol by volume: 57,8%
Cask: Ex Sauternes barrique
No 18: Smögen ”Dante” (a.k.a. ”The Bloodhound”), the first 10 yo bottling, at 57,8 % abv and released in the summer of 2021. Fully matured in four ex Sauternes barrique casks with a base from merely lightly peated malt, this whisky is a honeyed fruit salad on the nose, sprinkled with freshly baked bread crumbs, dark chocolate and some nutmeg and clove. Bottled in honour of the distillery dog, Dante the Bloodhound, who with his superior sense of smell has been at the distillery all the way from the very first bottling, greeting passing casks as well as visitors with an intrusive sniff and a kind wagging of the tail.
